These very patriotic medals were produced in the early parts of WW1 to celebrate a serviceman’s time in the war, these is obviously produced following the end of hostilities with the period 1914-18 being shown. A nice patriotic medal.
GM0148
WW1 German Patriotic 1914-15 medal, approx size 60mm diameter, heavy bronze like metal, front face has image of the 1914 Iron Cross hanging from both laurel and oak leaves, under which is ‘Weltkrieg 1914/15’ whilst the reverse shows a dramatic battle scene of infantry charging the enemy lines, who look to be perhaps French from the helmet shapes, with a naked spear thrusting woman riding a horse above the battle. These very patriotic medals were produced in the early parts of WW1 to celebrate a serviceman’s time in the war. Patriotic medals are not easy to find and are in themselves works of art, battle scene has the artists initials 'BM'.

GM0156
An interesting 'trench-art' type car grille badge, measuring 3 ½ inches in height by 2 ½ inches in width, it is made up of a centre disk that has an Iron Cross 1st class encapsulated into a resin disc which is itself fitted into a circular surround. The base then has an oakleaves wreath section made from the base of a WW2 German army cockade with the badge upper section being completed by a large size King’s Crown badge. All of this is then backed by a metal plate, tested as silver - there is a small ‘s’ marked in the lower area which is typical of a jewellers mark for silver - holding everything together, the oakleaves wreath is pinned through to the back plate. The back plate then has a nut and retaining ring to the back. The retaining ring is solid, I cannot budge it, it might ease with some tlc. The Iron Cross appears to be an 1870 period cross. This is a fascinating item that looks to have been something a soldier has crafted with bits readily available during or after the war. A little something different that somebody cared for and maybe had on a vehicle for some time.
GM0157
An interesting 'trench-art' WW1 1914 Iron Cross 1st Class, measuring 45 x 45mm, it looks to be made of copper shaped to match the Iron Cross 1st class. The front follows the design of the Iron Cross with the ‘silver’ frame outlining the cross shape, it has a stamped ‘W’ in the centre of the cross and similarly ‘1914’ in the bottom cross arm, in the top arm is the ‘Imperial’ crown though this is made from a Kings Crown off a British cap badge. The rear of the cross once had a pin fixed to the back and possibly a hook too, there appears to be a metal spur in the hook position. This is a fascinating item that looks to have been something crafted during the war as either a piece of trench art to while away time or perhaps something of a mockery to tease the German Soldiers. Equally, it may have been a German field made item, my gut feel is its British made mainly due to the British army crown. A little something different that has been carefully made. Nice patina and overall quality.
GM0158
