WW1 German S98/05 'Butcher' bayonet - 2nd pattern
A 2nd pattern S98/05 Butcher bayonet and scabbard. Maker marked 'Deutsche Maschinenfabrik, A-G. Duisburg'. The second pattern butcher bayonet has the ears filed down on the crossguard, was made from 1915 until 1918 and came with a metal scabbard. This excellent example is dated 1915 and has the flash guard. Wooden grips are in fine undamaged condition, the cross guard is numbered '103' and is a match to the scabbard number, release press-stud is solid though can be freed with some attention. Some minor paint chips/scratches to the scabbard, ball undamaged, scabbard numbered '103'. Blade lovely with some minor marks. This is an excellent 2nd pattern 'Butcher' with the bonus of a matching scabard and bayonet numbers, plus this maker only made 2nd pattern butcher bayonets.
