Standard WW1 pattern wooden gas alarm rattle used during the Great War and thereafter during WW2 by the Air Raid Patrol and Civil Defence personnel. Made from a dark brown hardwood timber, in excellent working condition. It is WW2 dated, stamped MB 1943, also looks to be WW1 dated which is not uncommon as much Great War equipment was reissued to the civil forces and Home Guard. Original gas rattles are now quite hard to find especially in working order.

An excellent example of a veteran's campaign belt ~ many Allied soldiers kept momentos of their campaign service by pinning badges to their belts. These are quite intimate to the individual soldier, some have military keepsakes, others have things from the area that the soldier passed through whilst others are simply random items whose meaning are sadly only known to that soldier ~ this example is a most likely a medic, being on a medics belt, with badges of those servicemen that he either fought with, treated or both. A nice example mainly comprising British badges though there are a couple of Canadian and American sweethearts, some wartime Italian stars etc . A nice personal item in excellent condition.
