POW issue Black Wound Badge & Eastern Front Award documents
Black Wound Badge and Eastern Front Medal award documents to the same man from an artillery regiment. Award document for the Eastern Front Medal dated August 1942 and for the Wound Badge in Black. What is really interesting is the wound badge was awarded in January 1945 but the certificate is a scarce POW granted issue and dated September 1945. POWs under the British control were still organised into their military units until the de-nazification process was completed. Often these units were authorised under British control to continue in their function albeit a non-operational role in the begining of the post-war clearence and re-establishment of order. Many units under allied control remained fully functional until the formal disbandment of the Wehrmacht on the forming of the Bundeswher in early 1950s. The Wound Badge certificate is issued with the swastika voided as was the then practice. A scarce POW issue award document.
