Indo Persian Battle Shield Dhal circa 1800
An Indo Persian Battle Shield Dhal circa 1800s in excellent condition, with no dents across the shield body. The shield is made from steel which has darkened with age, the rim is flared to deflect sword and knife thrusts. The shield face is very ornately decorated and still shows signs of colour to the front. In the centre there are four symmetrically placed 2 inch steel bosses. On the inside it has four metal studs with rings to which the handle leathers are attached, and a padded leather cushion under the leather handles, which is also secured by the four bolts, providing hand comfort and protection. The shield measures 14 inches in diameter. This is a finely decorated shield and is most likely a soldier bring back souvenir, scarce to find in such nice condition and decorative detail.
