Edo period, antique Japanese mokko shaped carved iron tsuba with dragon and tiger design
A mid 19th century, Edo period, antique Japanese mokko shaped carved iron tsuba with dragon and tiger design. The dragon is overlaid with gold and the tiger with silver with further flames and foliage highlighted in copper and gold. The tsuba measures 8 x 7.5 cms and approx 0.6 cm in thickness. It is in recovered condition as per the photos though the workmanship, which is of a very high order, still comes across clearly. A really nice tsuba that still looks fabulous on display. For a similar tsuba please see: http://www.mfa.org/collections/object/tsuba-with-design-of-dragon-and-tiger-9943
