WW2 German 'erased Rohm' SS Dagger by Hammesfahr Gottlieb, rarity level 7
An early erased Rohm SS dagger in very good condition. Maker marked Gottlieb Hammesfahr, Solingen, rarity level 7 in the Siegert reference, this maker only made SS daggers and only about 1000 daggers in total. A nice blade with minimal marks, the dedication appears to have been a factory removal rather than a personal effort, that said a number of the high and lower letter edges are clearly visible. The blade is tight and a perfect fit to the scabbard. The reverse of the lower cross guard has the area number code 'III' for the Berlin Group, the grip is excellent, a small wood chip to both the front and back faces and clearly tight to the crossguards. The scabbard retains about 60% of its finish, has the early solid nickel hilt and scabbard fittings, all of which are in good condition, the lower fitting has had the screws replaced with pins at some point, most likely contemporary, a slight depression in the upper area of the fitting, the ball is undamaged. A nice early SS dagger to a scarce maker. Price reflects the condition of this rare maker SS dagger.
