WW2 Kriegsmarine U-Boat Plague to U9
A WW2 U-Boat Veterans Association plaque from U9 in excellent condition. U9 was a type IIB boat commissioned in 1935 with its first Commander being Kptlt. Hans-GŁnther Looff. The U-Boat carried the Iron Cross of 1914 as its emblem in honour of its WW1 predecessor. The Iron Cross emblem of U-9 from WWII is in honor of Otto Weddigen's famous U-9 from WWI. In WW1 in the first major submarine victory in history, German U-Boat U9 commanded by Captain Lieutenant Otto Weddingen, destroys the three British Light Cruisers, Aboukir, Hogue, and Cressy in under 75 minutes 'before breakfast'!. Weddingen recieves the Iron Cross and Pour Le Merit and the whole crew the Iron Cross. Weddingen puts the Iron Cross on his coning tower of his U-9 as a mark of honour to his crew and boat. The plaque is heavy, approx 9.5 x 7 inches overall. The Iron Cross is a metal plate. U-Boat items of this quality are not often seen on the market.
